Makes: 10 to 12 biscuits
Ingredients
-
2 cups 500 mL Robin Hood® Original All Purpose Flour
-
3 tsp 15 mL baking powder
-
1/2 tsp 2 mL salt
-
1/2 cup 125 mL Crisco® All-Vegetable Shortening
-
3/4 to 1 cup 175 to 250 mL milk
Preparation
- Heat oven to 450°F (225°C). In large bowl, combine flour, baking powder and salt; mix well. With pastry blender or fork, cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stirring with fork, add enough milk until mixture leaves sides of bowl and forms a soft, moist dough.
- On floured surface, toss dough lightly until no longer sticky. Roll or press dough to 1/2" (1 cm) thickness. Cut with floured 2" (5 cm) round cutter. (Trimmings may need to be re-rolled once.) Place on ungreased or parchment-lined cookie sheet.
- Bake at 450°F (225°C) for 10 to 12 minutes or until light golden brown. Serve warm.
- Food Processor Method: In food processor bowl with metal blade, combine flour, baking powder and salt. Process with 5 on/off pulses to mix. Add shortening to flour mixture. Process until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add 1/2 cup (125 mL) to 2/3 cup (150 mL) milk; process with on/off pulses just until ball starts to form. On lightly floured surface, roll or press dough to 1/2" (1 cm) thickness. Cut with floured 2" (5 cm) round cutter. Continue as directed above.
